Yog it!

Making a plant-based yogurt alternative with Yog it!

Yes, you can use Yog it! for a plant-based batch. You need a suitable base, a culture intended for that base and a recipe with the right settings.

Match the appliance, culture and recipe

Yog it! maintains your selected temperature within its 20–50 °C setting range. The appliance provides the warmth; a successful batch still depends on the ingredients and method. Choose a recipe whose fermentation temperature is within that range.

A recipe for cow’s milk cannot be used unchanged with oat, almond or soy drinks. The base affects whether and how the batch thickens. A starter labelled “Greek” does not guarantee a particular texture with plant-based drinks.

A clear starting point

  1. Choose a complete recipe: Culture manufacturer Cultures for Health provides a guide using soy drink and its explicitly vegan starter. Use the base and culture specified there.
  2. Check the ingredients: Choose the specified plant-based drink and starter. Suitable for plant-based drinks does not automatically mean vegan or dairy-free. Check both products’ ingredients and allergen labels.
  3. Follow the whole method: Prepare clean jars. Take quantities, preparation, dosage, temperature and fermentation time from the same guide. Set the appropriate temperature and time on Yog it! and follow the instructions for covering the jars.
  4. Chill and assess: Chill the finished batch as directed. Judge the texture after the specified chilling period and add fruit or other ingredients afterwards.

This external recipe uses that manufacturer’s culture. It is not an approved preparation method for our Yog it! starters. Follow each starter’s own label and instructions; we are not describing our cultures as universally vegan or dairy-free.

Will oat or almond drinks set too?

The appliance alone cannot determine that. Depending on the base and recipe, a suitable thickener may be needed. Choose a complete method for that exact base rather than combining times, cultures or ingredients by guesswork.
